PLANt is the landscape division of the firm Brooks + Scarpa. We are a collective of designers and creative thinkers based in Fort Lauderdale and Los Angeles that are dedicated to enhancing the human experience while creating places that are unique and resilient. As a bi-coastal practice, we believe landscape design and urbanism can generate positive change in both built and natural environments. We are adept on urban and ecological design approaches to address “wicked” problems that combine both artistic and scientific solutions across all scales, from a piece of public realm furniture to the regional ecological plan. We do this through diverse forms of design thinking – buildings, built landscapes, planning frameworks, research, publications, and exhibitions – with the goal of connecting people to a place and development of dynamic and adaptive landscapes of the future.
Our services include architecture, urban design, planning and landscape architecture and design, and we integrate these skill sets to practice design as creative thinkers. We lead and work with teams of engineers and landscape architects on complex projects, from low impact stormwater management within sites and streetscapes to large public works projects like Salty Urbanism – a regional sea level rise adaptation framework – often translating technical skills into a legible and engaging public realm. We are also adept at working within community and stakeholder engagement to vision and realize projects.
Our work and collaborations have led to numerous national awards. In 2014, Brooks + Scarpa was awarded the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Architecture, Design and Planning.
