Located in Koreatown (Los Angeles) Miramar Gardens is a transformation of a water hungry turf lawn into a small active garden of native California landscaping. The landscape creates a restorative environment provides the senior residents with an active outdoor social space. Despite the small site, the landscape has a big design impact through innovative design, sense of movement, planting and material textures which create a seamless experience that is architecturally unique yet comforting and familiar to create a place for residents to call home. Water management and sustainability were high priorities and design drivers. Through the extensive use of native drought tolerant and low water plantings water usage is kept to a minimum. Native planting encourage wildlife and pollinators.
The project includes the renovation of the community room and terrace and a new exercise path as well as outdoor meditation spaces.
